On Tuesday, 19th November 2024, 14 club members took part in the Gala Day competition.
he competition had been arranged for 15 players, which would have been five teams of 3, but unfortunately one player was unwell on the day and could not come. It was decided to have one of the teams be made up of only two people, but they would each have three bowls whereas all other players, in the teams of three people, would have two. To pick the ‘two player’ team a coloured token was pulled out of the bag at random by the Club Captain, and put to one side.( Green. )
All players then went on to pick their coloured tokens. Each of the five teams played against all the other teams, and scored 2 points for a win,1 point each team for a draw, and zero for a loss, as usual.
After playing these games, the points were added up to decide who was the winning team overall. No team won all of their games during the afternoon, so the results table was a close one. But after a prophetic draw - the only drawn game of the competition – between Purple team and Yellow team, it was found that there was an exact tie for first place between these two teams. They had each won 2 games, lost 1 game and drawn the other. They could not even be separated by the total shots they scored over the competition, both having amassed 19 shots.
Therefore, having no time available to do a ‘play off’ today, it was agreed to hold one next Tuesday, the 26th, at the start of the roll-up session.
Finalists
