A better result for Saxon Bowlers this week in our first ‘Home’ match of the season. Stanwick were our visitors on Thursday 30th October, and we managed a good win overall.
Saxons ‘A’ seemed evenly matched on their mat against the Stanwick team for the first twelve ends of the game in a close, low-scoring encounter, and were tied 8 shots each at that point. Unfortunately a huge score of 7 shots for Stanwick in the thirteenth end changed the complexion of the game, and it was too late for Saxons to make a comeback, although they did win one of the last three ends. Had it not been for the loss of those 7 shots, the game would have remained a very close one. But in the end Stanwick won by 17 shots to 9.
Saxons ‘B’ had a tremendously good afternoon, scoring freely against a Stanwick side that, despite some good shots individually, simply could not succeed in holding ‘shot’ at the finish of each end. In fact, Stanwick only managed to win one of the sixteen ends played, the ninth. Saxons then continued to dominate the rest of the game, ending with an amazing win by a score of 26 shots to 2.
Saxons ‘A’ lost by 9 – 17
Saxons ‘B’ won by 26 – 2
Saxons won overall, 35 to 19
Team A : Tony Sellick, Ann Cook, Kathy Marshall, Chris Selling
Team B : Anna Davies, Carole Bourne, Roger Bond, Roger Gill
