Stanwick - Home. Match Result

Website updated 01-Nov-2024

On Thursday 31st October, Saxon Bowlers played another ‘home’ match at Saxon Hall against our near neighbours, Stanwick. Stanwick had unfortunately had one of their players pull out of the match that morning, and had asked whether Saxons might have a spare player who could bowl for Stanwick instead. Although it seemed unlikely, while we were preparing for the match one extra bowler arrived at Saxon Hall, and agreed to do just that. So Stanwick had a ‘helping hand’ on Mat 2 from Ann Cook who knew the mat and played very well on their behalf.

Saxons ‘A’ on Mat 1 found it hard to score at first, and were down by 2 shots to 5 by the fifth end. A nice score of 3 then brought them back to parity at 5 all, and thereafter Stanwick managed to win only two of the next ten ends !

Saxons scored well in several of these ends, with a memorable 7 shot win in the fourteenth end which sealed Stanwick’s fate, with Saxons winning in the end by 25 shots to 8

On the other mat Saxons ‘B’ had a much closer game. Despite a good score of 4 shots in their third end, it was very much ‘nip and tuck’ through the first twelve ends, with all other ends except one being won by only 1 shot for both teams.  So after twelve ends the game was tied, with scores of 8 shots each, and it looked it could go either way.

Fortunately, after this Stanwick seemed to run out of steam a little, and Saxons won all of the last four ends, including a wonderful score of 5 shots in the very last one, winning by 16 shots to 8.

Saxon ‘A’ won by 25 - 8
Saxon ‘B’ won by 16 - 8

Saxons won overall then, 41 to 16

Team A : Linda Gill, Kathy Marshall, Chris Selling, Roger Gill
Team B : Anna Davies, Tony Sellick, Roger Bond, David Hill
