Stanwick - Away. Match Result

On Thursday 27th February 2025 Saxons played an ‘away’ match against Stanwick.

On mat 1, Saxons ‘A’ team took a while to settle, falling behind their opponents through the first half of the match and only winning three of the first nine ends, so they were trailing at that point by 3 shots to Stanwick’s 11. The tide turned after that with Saxons taking a nice win by 3 shots in the tenth end to double their score. From there on, Saxons won steadily, only letting Stanwick take one of the last six ends. But despite this great attempt at a ‘comeback’, taking each of the last four ends by only one shot was not quite enough for them to overtake the lead Stanwick had built up in the first half of the game, and Saxons lost by 12 shots to 13.

On the other mat, Saxons ‘B’ started fairly well, and shared the early scoring with their Stanwick opposition so that after seven ends the score was tied at 5 all, and after eleven ends both teams were still level at 8 shots each. Unfortunately, in what was a very tight, close game, Stanwick just managed to slip ahead, taking three of the last five ends, and closing the game 2 shots in front of Saxons who lost by 10 shots to 12.

A disappointing end result for Saxons, then, with both teams losing narrowly in a couple of very close, low scoring games.
