On Thursday17th October, Saxon Bowlers played our first ‘home’ game of the season and got another big win against Romans, from Irchester.
Saxons ‘B’ on Mat 2 only lost one of the first eight ends, and scored steadily to be 10 – 1 in front already at that point. Although Romans tried to come back at us they only won three more ends in the second half of the game, while Saxons won the other five, and had a couple of big scores; 5 shots in the fourteenth end and 6 shots in the last one, winning convincingly by a massive 27 shots to 6.
On the other mat Saxons ‘A’ had a much closer game. Until the twelfth end there was only one score of 3 shots, all of the other ends being decided by just the 1 point. So Saxons were trying to hang onto a slim lead by 7 – 6, and it looked like the game could go either way. It was just as well that Saxons managed to score a huge 6 shots in the next end, because that was the last end that they won, with the Romans creeping up from behind a shot or two at a time. For the second match in a row, the final end for Saxons ‘A’ was a ‘tied’ one, with no score for either team. So they finished with a creditable win in this tight game by 13 shots to 10.
Saxon ‘A’ won by 13 - 10
Saxon ‘B’ won by 27 - 6
Saxons won overall then, 40 to 16
Team A : Linda Gill, Kathy Marshall, Tony Sellick, Roger Gill
Team B : Anna Davies, Jeanette Statham, Roger Bond, Chris Selling
