On Thursday 9th January 2025 Saxons played an ‘away’ match ‘ against Redwell, (Wellingborough)
Saxons ‘B’ ‘s game took a while to get started, with their Redwell opponents seeming unsure of what players they had and changing the starting line up several times before deciding eventually who was playing. Once play started after this, Saxons found it difficult to adjust to very fast running mat, but managed to be all square after six ends. Even six ends later, despite their frustrations, Saxons were only 1 shot behind, at 9 – 10. However a big score of 5 shots by Redwell in the thirteenth end made it difficult for Saxons, who did their best to reply, but lost the game in the end by 14 shots to 18.
Saxons ‘A’ on their mat shared the score with their opposition for the first few ends, then built up a short lead, until after the eleventh end they were 12 – 7
ahead. But a score of 5 shots in the next end by Redwell brought them back to even stevens. With six more ends left to play, Saxons began to score more freely and pull away again so that after the penultimate end they were 22 – 15 in the lead. A fantastic final end gave the Saxon team a rare 8 shot result – a “hotshot” – where all of their eight bowls were in the count ! So they finished with a comfortable win of 30 shots to 15.
Saxons won overall, 44 to 33
Team A : Linda Gill, Ann Cook, Kathy Marshall, Roger Gill
Team B :Anna Davies, Jeanette Statham, Tony Sellick, Roger Bond
