Weldon - Away. Match result
Unusually for us, we played an away match on a Saturday this week, 11th November, against a team we had never played before, at Weldon.
They had asked us to play 3 triples, that is teams of three players, instead of teams of four. So, on this occasion Saxons not only had teams A & B but also a team C as well.
It was a very different afternoon, with each team being asked to play on three different mats in the course of the match, 6 ends on each one.
As well as moving from mat to mat, each team played all of the Weldon teams too, so there were 9 small ‘games’ and not just 3 – a very complicated arrangement that stumped even the Weldon captain from time to time, although things were sorted out after a few minutes thought!
Some of these little games were won, and some were lost. For most of the afternoon it was not certain which way it would go & which bowlers would win the match. But finally, Saxons narrowly came out on top in the end, with an overall winning score or 52 to 48.
A close thing. But a nice win, especially away from home.
